We all started walking back to the town. Kairi fell into step next to me. “Nona came through a portal by herself, said that Letitia couldn’t come. So only Mitzi is on her way, but she’s waiting for Iyume. She was at the house when we got there after you fell. When we told her, she started freaking out. So as soon as the sun started to rise, we came here. She was really worried.”
The blackness was painful. Hundreds of songs, thousands of voices all spoke and sang and played at once.
“…what Sarah said…” “Don’t you dare say that about her!” “… I’m better suited to protect you from them…” When I stepped out of the portal, Kairi let go of my hand. “Welcome to Radiant Garden, Nanashi. You’ve never been here before, although you were planning to come sometime. But now here you are.” She smiled at me.
I was overcome with curiosity. We had stepped out in an area behind some shops, by the looks of the signs. The area was not grass, or even dirt, but brick. Most of the town was elevated on brick. I heard water flowing and crashing like waterfalls, and I smelt the same salty-sweet fragrance that I was familiar with in Twilight Town. I saw a half-demolished castle nearby, just outside of the town. The castle was surrounded by blue canyons. The town was beautiful, if it weren’t for the somewhat dark presence that I felt. It wasn’t a deep darkness, though. Kairi waved to me. “Hey! C’mon Nanashi! We’re going to see Leon!” Vasska tugged me through the forest gently, not saying a word. Not that I cared. I probably wouldn’t have talked back anyway. I didn’t feel like doing anything. But I also felt that we were getting closer to the gold presence that I kept feeling on this world; the one that the darkness wanted very badly.
“Where are we going?” I whispered, out of energy. “A mansion hidden in the forest. It’s where I’ve set up a small base so I could track you down. Of course, I haven’t been here since the day before yesterday. It’s kind of ironic that I should find you when I was on my way to see if my tracking devices were picking you up.” After bawling my head off for a few minutes, a couple of minutes passed before I calmed down, and I decided to get up. I stretched my legs groggily, and walked around the room a bit. The throbbing in my neck dulled down significantly when my blood started flowing from the exercise. I wandered around the room, looking at things in the dark. I found a window, covered by a curtain, and I walked up to it and opened it.
I was suddenly blinded by the sunlight, and I quickly covered my face in response. I looked down into the street; I was still in Twilight Town. There was no one outside, and I was at least on the second story of a building. The window was facing the sun, and the heat poured from the glass like it was an oven itself. I quickly closed the curtain, already starting to sweat. And then I noticed that I was wearing a simple white dress, with no sleeves. I blushed slightly; Vasska had seen me in something so exposing. But why would I care? He was just another guy to me, wasn’t he? |
